Parental stress and perception of parental nursing care in neonatology

Artículo

Resumen

This article examines parental stress and the perception of parental nursing care in a neonatology service in Peru. Based on a quantitative study with parents of hospitalized newborns, the research found that most participants experienced a moderate level of stress, especially due to changes in the parental role, the baby’s appearance and treatment, and separation during hospitalization. Parents also reported weaknesses in the emotional, communicational, and informational support provided by nursing staff, although they recognized good clinical care for their babies. The study highlights the need to strengthen parent involvement and to better address psychoemotional needs during neonatal hospitalization.
